Brown Christmas

I keep hearing complains about it being a brown Christmas. Whaaat?? These people must've never shoveled over 200 feet of foot deep snow when it was 0 degrees outside. It's fine and dandy to want snow if you've got a snowblower (and a man) But when you're the one wielding the shovel, staring down a sea of 2 foot drifts, you say "Take snow and shovel it!"

Cheap Pizza

Sorry, Totino's, your cheap pizza has been one-upped by Tony's Pizza-For-One. Tony's has got a thicker crust, redder sauce, and more meat for the same price.. The paper-thin cardboard crusts don't cut it anymore.

Halloween!

It's my favorite holiday!! Who's voting for me in the pumpkin carving contest on Crafternews?? Hahaha!! I WANT TO WIN!
Kinties get goodies tonight: Whoppers and Rice Crispie Treats-the real ones, not the homemade kind,.

Too Bad

Read a short interview with the lead singer from the band Foster the People (Pumped Up Kicks) in Rolling Stone, now I'm bummed. Never saw this guy before, but now that I have.....He looks like someone I know who really annoys me. Trouble is, I can't think of who it is. Now when Pumped Up Kicks comes on the radio I can't stand it,  because this guy annoys me so much. Darn!

Those phrases.....

Phrases reality show contestants would die without: "Let's do this!" "You rocked that!" "Let's rock n' roll!" "You hauled." "You got this!" "Oh. My. God."

"Me"s

 I hate it when I annoy myself. I can't stop saying "me"s.
It doesnt' even make sense. "Oh, yeah! Me's want some M&M's!" It would be bad enough if I said "Me wants some M&M's" but "Me's wants some M&M's"?!!
 Please. Stop.

Book review for Final Victim!

<a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1491889.Final_Victim" style="float: left; padding-right: 20px"><img alt="Final Victim" border="0" src="http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1286896884m/1491889.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1491889.Final_Victim%22%3EFinal Victim</a> by <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/12469.Stephen_J_Cannell%22%3EStephen J. Cannell</a><br/>
My rating: <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/218915086%22%3E4 of 5 stars</a><br /><br />
This book was a suspensful read from beginning to end. Dawson and Lockwood are compelling characters, and Leonard/The Rat/The Wind Minstrel is one of the most deranged killers I've read about in a while.

words

I've got another one! 'Associates' or 'Assoshiates'. I actually heard someone say 'Assoshiates' in an ad for a college this morning, so how wrong can it be???

Wordle

Thanks to Coffee Mate Brew Crew (You know I'm a member, guys) I discovered a fun new site. Wordle.com. Think of a topic, then make a collage of all the words you can think of. Fun! Fun! Fun!

Coffee Mate Brew Crew puzzle!

It took me 5:31 seconds to finish the Coffee Mate Brew Crew puzzle. Don't know if that's good or bad.;-D But it was a blast to do!

words

Can anyone answer this mind-boggler for me--Why do some people say 'annivershry'? Where does the 'sh' sound come from?
And is it 'almond' or 'ahmond'? I can't stand 'ahmond'. And what about 'morgage' or 'mortage' for mortgage? I've heard it both ways.....

Cerra

I'm not going to be a salesman here, I've never been good at that stuff, but I recently got a kit from SheSpeaks from Cerra.com and I am loving this site! I never even heard of Cerra.com before this campaign, but it turns out it's this great site where you go to reflect on the things that are important in your life. There's fantastic scented oils (may I recommend Creativity which is yummy-delicious) and these dissolving note pages. That's what hooked me in. It feels so good to write down something that's been getting on my nerves, put it in the bowl of water, and watch it dissolve....aaaaaaaaaah! PEACE!

Maybe

This might just be my intuition talking but....Any guy who casually throws around the phrase "Bitches be crazy" isn't really boyfriend material.

Nostalgia train.......

The nostalgia train has left the station-can't stop thinking about my favorite foods from the 90's. Just thought about P.B. Max candy bars which were one of my favorites. Oh the agony! I wonder if I could whip this up as a recipe. It was just a a cookie bottom with some peanut butter and covered in chocolate. That's sounds doable.

Anything Old

After purchasing a 101 year old Ladie's Home Journal at a garage sale yesterday, I am in total nostalgie heaven. I truly am an old soul. I love going back and reading these articles, and the ads....! Love the garage sales! LOVE THEM!

Nacho Tostitios

Why did they ever stop making Nacho Tostitos??????????
It's a question I've been baffled by for decades! Those chips were better than The Bomb. They were The Big Bang. Please, Tostitos, bring back nacho tostitos in the yellow bag!!

Ads

Last night I finally got to sit back and relax with my new issue of All You. While flipping through it I came to a realization......If advertisers are looking for the million dollar secret that gets people to look at their ads-I've uncovered it. .....If it's got a picture of food-I'ma lookin'.
Is this just me?? I always slow down in the recipe section of magazines, I've got to stop and drool over the pictures of the dinners. I can't help myself. Just love pictures of food!!!
Saw a great recipe for rice crispie pumpkins with a chocolate inside. (Come on, Who could not look at that? It's like an inside out Whatchamacallit bar!) I'm gonna be whipping up some of those this weekend.

Pringles With Ridges

I was flipping through an old 1999 magazine the other day when I noticed an ad that made me drool...........Pringles with ridges.
How is it possible that these disappeared from the shelves years ago and I didn't notice??? I used to eat these all the times-especially the mesquite flavor-Oh, how I miss the late 90's when all the new potato chips were mesquite barbecue!!!!!
I'm launching an official campaign to bring back the ridges.

Shag Carpet

All the new houses I've seen are devoid of the wall-to-wall. Brrrr! I like a comfortable house. I don't care if my rust and brown shag carpet is Nerd Supreme- all I want is to walk barefoot across the floor without freezing my feet off. Hardwood floors? Tile?? In Iowa?! When it's 50 degrees in the house?!! I have no vanity when it's 50 degrees in the house.

Bubble Wrap

I got a package yesterday with a new kind of bubble wrap that doesn't pop! Bummer. What'll they ruin next?!

Club Songs

There's been a ton of Club songs this year, haven't there?? Every other song on the radio you've got people 'throwing their hands in the air' 'raise your glass' 'get on the floor' 'put your glasses up' 'Club can't handle me' and etc. etc. etc. I love all of them..but how many more can there be??

Yay!

Don't you love it when you buy something on Amazon, then a few weeks later you peek back and see they raised the price by 6 bucks??
Wheeeeeee!

Going with Lazy tonight. Microwave Deli Express cheeseburgers. Gotta admit, I'm sick of the canned ravioli every Friday night. Seriously, is every meat expensive right now or what. I'd go vegetarian, but vegetables are expensive too! 3.00$  for 6 tomatoes?? Let's be real here. I wish the tomatoes on myown vines weren't sitting there like hard, green marbles for 2 weeks!

Loud!

Is it just me, or does Big Brother have the loudest theme music on T.V.?? It's like my volume button went from 15 to 20 when it comes on!

Dancing.........

What's this?? David Arquette might be on Dancing With the Stars?? That would be a good pick!
I'm going to think up my own list this afternoon, who I would guess they would pick. Then I'll see how many I've guessed right!! What will  I award myself with. when I guess right......? Hmmmmmm

Stuff I Like

I watched the movie Any Given Sunday the other night, and by the end of it found myself thinking 'Great movie!'. And it totally surprised me! I'm not a fan of football, yet every football movie/TV show I've ever seen has been surprisingly entertaining. And the same goes for any book written on the topic of war. History has never been my favorite subject, yet War & Peace, Born on the 4th of July, and All's Quiet on the Western Front are some of my all-time favorite books.
There's a big difference between what you think you like and what you really like!!

Garden 2011

As usual, the garden looks pretty and green, but what it actually produces is next to nothing. My turnips have turned into these weird 5 foot vines with some kind of pods hanging off of them, my bean leaves have been attacked by the Japanese beetles and look like lace, and my radishes are nothing more than a centimeter-wide root in the ground. And my sunflowers are on death's door! Who can't grow a sunflower?!
The best thing I've got this year is probably my cosmos. But from everything I've heard' 4 year olds can grow them, so it's not a real feat.

Wow! I'm on fire today!

Another post!!
Getting ready for the fair next week. It should be sunny and 94 degrees with a heat index of 105.
Mmmmmm........There's nothing like the smell of humid, 105 degree, hot taco air.......Blech!
Do I dare visit the swine barns if it's 94 degrees? hahaha
I've got a bad feeling my exhibits look like crap. I don't think I'll be getting any Best of Shows this year. But I think everything I do is half-crap, so maybe I'm wrong.
Looking forward to Seether. Love their new song.
Don't like being alone at these concerts, but what's a Loser to do? HAHA!
I'd like to try a blooming onion, but everything's so expensive!!
Hope I don't get heat stroke on the walk home.

Cruising around Amazon music

One of my favorite things to do in a second window is to cruise around Amazon's free music. There are so many gems out there! I just downloaded a song called 123 by The Postelles. Better than anything I'd buy. I've got that new cloud player, but I prefer the music on my computer. Now, if I could just get my stupid MP3 player to work. Stupid computer, RECOGNIZE the new hardware already, you Idiot!!

Google+

I've been hearing a little buzz about Google + lately and it makes me nervous. Do you realize, given the choice between hearing my status updates or not, most people would choose not? LOL! I don't want a new social website. I like Facebook, it's not too complicated, you can find new friends, it's everything I need. And I don't need video chat. Who wants to see this at 6:30 in the morning?
I hope it's a bust.

4th of July recap

The best part of my 4th of July??
6:10 in the afternoon. 92 degrees of dry heat on the sunporch. Radio on playing three in a row by Papa Roach. Throwing everything aside, sitting back in the rocking chair, and just enjoying some great music. That's it right there. That's all I want out of life.

Speaker of my Soul: Morrissey

How Long Is Now: This says everything I'm feeling this weekend:
"So you go on your own, and you stand on your own, then you go home and you cry and you want to die.
So what happens now? But what exactly do you mean? You see I've already waited too long, and all my hope is gone. I am human and I need to be loved, Just like everybody else does."
The man is pure genius. Those words. It's like they're straight out of my soul this morning.
Hail Morrissey.

No Tip Jar

I got rid of the tip jar feature already. There's too much pressure. I don't have anything on my blog that's worth a cent. Besides, I don't like getting paid for doing the stuff I love. Is that crazy?? That's supposed to be the point in life. But the minute I start doing something because I'm 'getting paid' or I'm trying to win something, all the joy goes out of it. I want to do something just because it's here, whether or not anyone reads it.
And it's most fun of all when it turns into something I'm 'wasting time' on.........That's when things really become enjoyable. When I'm supposed to be doing something else!!! (Usually a job)

Sunday afternoon

I make the Best Pasta Salad Ever. The secret is the sweet relish...with some garden chives...and a touch of Baco-s. Mmmmm!

Cold, Gray Saturday

It's gray and glum outside. 65 degrees. A good day to work on those craft projects. I have three in the line-up: Scrapbooking my most recent pictures-but I'm waiting for my new albums from Amazon. #2 trying this new design where you iron Wonder bread bags to adhere the polka dot design. And #3 finishing up this crochet sailboat doilie. (Yes. People still crochet doilies....not to use. Just to attempt!!) Starting wiiiiiith......The doilie.

Recycling

My neighbor keeps setting out his cardboard for the garbage truck when he could set it in the same place, at the same time,  just two days later for the recycling truck. Gets on my nerves...........

hot Hot HOT

Yesterday it was 99 degrees on the sunporch, 90 degrees upstairs, 85 degrees downstairs, and 75 degrees in the cellar.....I'm enjoying my time down here in the "Bat Cave"

A Wrinkle in Time

I got a copy of A Wrinkle in Time from a garage sale about 2 years ago, but I'm just getting around to it in my sky high pile of books.
I remember having to suffer through this book when I was about 10 or 11 years old, for a school project, Fantasy books were not My Thing!! This book and that dreaded Phantom Tollbooth....(but that's for another day) Wrinkle in Time put me to sleep faster than a politically correct text book story with 'Questions at the end of the chapter'.
Yet...... now I'm totally loving it! It just goes to show- adults thinking they know what kid's will like have no idea. Most likely, if an adult is crazy about a book, kid's are going to be bored out of their mind. When I was 10, all I wanted to read were those corny Baby-Sitter Club Books and Sweet Valley Twins. Only now am I able to appreciate the imagination and fascination of Madeleine L'Engle.

"Camping" Memories

Memorial Day weekend and everyone is out camping.
I've wanted to go camping since the first time I laid eyes on a TV set. I'd beg to go as a kid, but to no avail. Apparently, my dad knew better than to spend the weekend in a tent.
I'd fake the whole experience though. I'd gather sticks from the street and make a pile, then try to rub two sticks together to make fire (you know, like on TV). We even had a tent in our cellar-this moldy, MASH-like tent that smelled like old cheese- it had no poles, so I'd have to tie it up to the swingset. Next to it, I'd set up our 70's style metal frame hammock, then sit out and eat some barbecue chips and read The Enquirer, like I was really camping out......I wasn't even allowed to spend the night outdoors, so by 5:00, campout was over.
I still want to go camping someday. (just not in a saggy cheese tent next to a highway)

Feel free to comment :) Everyone's welcome

Grammar

I've been feeling paranoid about my grammar lately. Is it "I love you too" or "I love you, too" Is it 'anybody' or 'anyone'? 'I have to say this...' or 'I just have to say this...' Arrrrrrh....This is not something I used to have to think about, I used to just write and there it was. Now I'm so far removed from the last English class I took, I think I've forgotten some of the basics!! (And let's face it, the last 'English' class I had was just a coverup called 'Exploring Adolescence Studies' WTH??) I haven't had a good, real composition class in 25 years. (Should I start a new paragraph here??)
No one likes to talk about losing their skills. But yeah, I need a refresher. I'm feeling like an idiot before every post I make on Facebook or Twitter. "Am I sure this is correct? They will know if it's not!! They're gonna think I'm an idiot! Oh, God, I pressed enter and I typed 'Happy birthday, from all of us here in Monti!' Was that supposed to be 'Happy birthday from all of us here in Monti.' no comma?! Is 'all of us' redundant?? Should it just say 'Happy Birthday (comma???) from us here in Monti' ???
I've gotta hone up! Gotta dig out that English book again. Gotta study like it's 1991.

Adsense

Should I add ads to my blog, or does that look cheesey. I don't think anyone actually clicks on them anyway. I might add the Amazon button, because I love that site and it would be a quick link if I recommend a book or music.
 Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

New Book!!

Just got the book Cooking For Gracie. It's a mix of recipes along with this dad's account of his newborn baby who was born prematurely. I'm one chapter in (October) and I love it. Wow wow wow! Fun! And he's great at writing about the trials and tribulations of being a new dad.

Update

Oh my God. Totally ignore my last post. I sound pathetic.

Me

I'm a 34 and single.
Yuuuuuup. Single.
Is this where I thought I would be at this age? No. And I don't understand it. If there was anybody made for marriage, it's me. I'm as easy going as it gets. Yet, here I sit. Alone. My goal is to have some action by 35. Anything after 35 and I might as well call it a day.
I've had it with being single.

Y&R

Y&R's Victoria's hair is so awful, it actually looks worse than mine! She's a soap star, don't they have any money in the budget for a hairdresser??

My First Blog! EEEEK!

My first Blog!! Welcome to the 20th century, Janet! Maybe you'll make it to the 21st by 2025!
What a day to begin-when I have no news....It's cold, dreary, gray, and wet outside. I want to research homemade compost bins, but I don't know if I can have one around here. It's so cold for so long, I'm afraid I'll just have a wet box of smelly banana peals in the backyard 10 months of the year. And where do you get worms?! I've got to look into this.
